I'm a newbie, everyone please help. My 4 partitions are all NTFS. When I use vfloppy to load NTFS and enter the hard disk, I find that the .com, .exe, and .bat commands under DOS cannot run. The most critical thing is that the Windows XP installation program Winnt.exe and Ghost on the NTFS partition cannot run normally. Can GRUB solve this problem? The premise is that I want to keep the NTFS partition. Can you give me a specific plan and write a menu.lst for me?

Can't you just use GRUB to boot an IMG image with an NTFS partition read-write software (NTFS4DOS.EXE)?

Reply to floor 2, have you tested the method you mentioned? This method is no different from the vflppy I used to load ntfs, and it doesn't work. If you have successful experience, I hope you can provide me with the specific method.

Boot from a USB drive into DOS, and then you can execute Ghost on the USB drive.

When partitioning, if not using NTFS, which is better, FAT32?

The installation program Winnt.exe for Windows XP does not support the first partition being an NTFS partition under DOS

Anyway, NTFS is the general trend. Since it can't be solved now, I'll just wait patiently. Eventually, someone will come out to solve this problem because by then, this will become a common need.

For NTFS, it is recommended to use Win PE, as it has the best support for NTFS. Here is a discussion about PE http://bbs.wuyou.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=39

It seems that the installation document of vfloppy mentions that it doesn't support NTFS.

At that time, the main reason for switching from vfloppy to grub for dos was that this thing could only be installed on the primary partition fat32, and when using it to load the DOS environment and then install Windows, copying the Windows installation process was very afraid of power outages. Once there was a power outage, it would be a disaster. Later, I switched to using grub for dos to place its installation file in (hd0,4) and install it to the MBR, so there would be no such worry.

Of course, I estimate that for your such environment, PE is the best solution, or you can use bart's network disk to install through other machines via the network. When using grub for dos to install locally, a fat32 partition is still reserved, because if you load IFS to read data, the speed is really unbearable. At this time, it may be a memory allocation problem, and many programs are very prone to errors.

Boot with NTLDR, then load GRLDR, and then load the IMG file. The BIN file generated by VFLOPPY cannot be moved; otherwise, it won't boot. It's quite different from IMG. Of course, PE is the best choice.

I haven't been here recently. I just came up today and saw that everyone has given so many suggestions. Thank you very much. Then it seems that both ntfs and dos, whether with grub or vfloppy, can't make them fully compatible. It seems that I still give up grub4dos and turn to pe, hehe. Thank you again ptptptptptp dato netwinxp
