Dream Chinese WIN98 Boot Disk Version 2 - Simple Explanation

The original Chinese WIN98 boot disk was made by me two years ago. From the current situation, it is somewhat outdated, so I took it to modify again. Considering practicality, I still use the Tianhui Chinese character system. Although the TW system uploaded by the Master Ru in the forum is smaller, its Chinese input method cannot input word groups, which feels too awkward (^_^).

The software on the disk tries to use the localized software as much as possible. This Chinese WIN98 system disk can be used for learning the entry of disk and file operations in DOS, as well as memory management, etc., and can back up the data on the hard disk using USB hard disks and USB flash drives when the WIN system crashes.

Usage. Boot the computer with it, and it will automatically enter the Chinese state. Because the compressed package is relatively large, the speed will be slower than the original WIN98 boot disk, but the compressed package has been optimized, and the speed will be improved compared with the previous version.

This boot disk is made based on the WIN98SE boot disk, retains all the original functions, retains tools such as SCANDISK, EDIT, ATTRIB, supports most IDE optical drives, some USB hard disks, optical drives and USB flash drives (USB electronic disks), and SCSI optical drives, and adds the following new features:
1. Replaced the original FDISK with the localized WIN98 FDISK, so you can perform partition operations in your familiar mother tongue. Note that the WIN98 FDISK will cause errors when used on hard disks larger than 64G.
2. Supplemented two common external commands, XCOPY and DELTREE, from FREEDOS
3. Added the mouse driver program CTMOUSE, which can drive the mouse of the COM and PS2 ports, and only occupies 3K memory
4. Changed to use the DOSLFN long filename driver. When it is resident in memory, it supports long DOS filename operations. Refer to the DOSLFN 0.321 version of Wengier's boot disk that fully supports Chinese long filenames.
5. Added a universal support program for USB drives. At least it has successfully supported the hard disk mode of my Netac dual-boot USB flash drive. In theory, it also supports USB optical drives and hard disks, but I don't have these devices and can't test them. Retained the latest version of DUSE4.2, providing another type of backup function for supporting USB hard disks/optical drives.
6. Added the hard disk low-level formatting program LOW, supplementing the most lacking hard disk low-level formatting function in the original boot disk.
7. Added the soft landscape PCTOOLS Chinese-English bilingual version. The interface and operation are completely modeled after the PCTOOLS5 file management tool, which can modify hidden files, binary files, etc.
8. Added the localized file manager NORTON COMMAND 2. Although the version is a bit old and does not support long filenames, it is good enough to use after localization.
9. Added the Chinese memory information viewer CMI, which is N times better than the DOS MEM.
10. Added the SCSI optical drive driver program, which can drive the SCSI optical drive.
11. Added the QF program of Sanming Technology. When it is resident in memory, the speed of using FDISK and FORMAT will be greatly accelerated, saving time.
12. Added CTLOAD, which only needs to type CDROM at the DOS command line to load the optical drive without restarting.
13. Added the command OFF to turn off the ATX power supply under DOS, so that DOS can also realize software shutdown like WINDOWS.
14. Added NTFSDOS, which can read the NTFS partition information of WINNT/2000/XP under DOS.
15. Adopted the IO.SYS modified by Wengier, which is smaller in size, faster in startup, and more stable in performance.
16. Added CMOSMENU, a very useful CMOS tool, which can back up/restore CMOS information and check CMOS passwords.
17. Adopted the FINDCD and FINDRAMD programs written by Wengier, which can find optical drives and virtual disks more quickly and accurately.
18. Added the national standard stroke code viewing program QW, which helps find Chinese special characters and Chinese characters for input.
19. Added the floppy disk acceleration tool SMARTFLP, which is automatically loaded at startup. It is said that it can increase the floppy disk reading and writing speed by 50%, which can significantly accelerate the startup speed and shorten the time.
20. Added the floppy disk copying tool QCOPY, and the reading and writing speed of the copied floppy disk will be significantly improved.
21. Added the floppy disk copying tool COPYMAKE, which can replace the DISKCOPY command and can copy some encrypted disks.
22. Added the DOSKEY tool, which is convenient for command line operation.
23. Added the disk buffer tool SMARTDRV (manually loaded when needed), which can greatly improve the operation performance of hard disks and optical drives, and accelerate file copying and.
24. Added the famous compression software RAR2.0 localized version, which has a very complete compression function. It can be used for learning backup and compression.
25. Added the anti-freeze buster, Gong Chengbing's GH95. When死机, press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C to withdraw all the programs causing死机from memory.
26. The Chinese character system adopts the Tianhui 3.1 compressed improved version, which can automatically localize the DOS command prompt information, and the speed is better than the Oriental Express used by other Chinese system disks. Introduced several input methods from the Kingsoft Chinese character system: full pinyin double tone (ALT-F2), double pinyin double tone (ALT-F3), Wubi font (ALT-F4), plus the built-in national standard stroke code (ALT-F1), which is enough to meet the needs of most people.
27. In addition to the original EDIT, added the delicate Chinese text file editor ASE, which is only 13K.
28. Changed to use the DEBUG program that supports Chinese display.

Tried it, and I want to say three questions:

1: That TW3.1 plus its input method takes up really a lot of memory, actually as high as about 150KB! It's comparable to DUSE, NTFSDOS, etc.

2: There are a large number of useless files with the extension TMP on the RAM disk after startup. What's the matter?

3: There seem to be some missing necessary prompt messages during the startup process. Some prompts can be appropriately added in the startup file to facilitate users' use.

Teacher Mo, the Chinese version of FDISK for switching to WINME supports large hard drives above 60GB.

Also, the CCDOS input method added in Tianhui 3.1 version really takes up too much memory and is not practical in the boot disk. It's better to use the one that comes with Tianhui. My boot disk uses Tianhui 3.2 version, plus 3.1 Wubi and Pinyin.

Actually, for DOSLFN, it's the same without adding the /z parameter with the country code page. Adding it actually fixes it, which is not good.
