Windows 98 is already installed on drive C. Now I want the machine to enter MSDOS 7.1 automatically at boot and run DOS programs. When necessary, I should still be able to start Windows 98. How should this be set up?

Set BOOTGUI=0 in MSDOS.SYS. Then at boot it will automatically enter MS-DOS 7.10 mode. When necessary, you can use the WIN command to enter Win98 at any time.

After setting bootgui=0 in msdos.sys and entering msdos7.10, can you still set the related parameters in config.sys like with a boot disk? Will autoexec.bat be executed automatically? If it can be set, will it affect re-entering Win98?

Yes, it can; yes, it will; if set correctly, it will not affect it.

Win 98 boots the same way as the old MS-DOS: IO.sys-->MSDOS.sys-->CONFIG.sys-->AUTOEXEC.bat-->WIN.com, and after that come some drivers under Windows.
