LXD creates a space in memory to emulate a floppy drive. Although the principle is similar to IMGDRIVER,
it is much more convenient to use. It is the best thing for dealing with those .IMG and .DDI files.

Usage: LXD FILENAME.DRIVER: IMG is the default format and can be omitted. If it is a DDI file, just change it to FILENAME.DDI. DRIVER can be A or B. This depends on the drive letter used by the real floppy drive. If you boot from CD, then the A drive letter is already occupied, so "DRIVER" should be B. To undo this command, use LXD /U Example: Suppose a certain game is on a CD and split into 10 IMG files. The filenames are from 1234-1.IMG to 1234-10.IMG. You only need to type: LXD E:1234-1.IMG A: At this time you will see the CD-ROM light flashing and hear a "beep", indicating that 1234-1.IMG has been read. Then type A: and press Enter, do a DIR, and you will find that it is the contents of 1234-1.IMG. Find INSTALL.EXE and start installation. When it prompts you to insert the second disk, you only need to press "`" once (that key is directly below ESC), and when you hear a "beep", it means it has been read. Syntax: fakedisk drive:
Options:
-u = uninstall
-e = enable fakedisk
-d = disable fakedisk
-f = free XMS and disable fakedisk
-o offset = start offset in disk image file (default 0)
use C syntax for offset: 01000 - octal
512 - decimal
0x200 - hexadecimal
E.g.: fakedisk b: -o 0x2400 disk1.ddi
fakedisk b: -u
fakedisk a: disk1.xdf

I think RAMDISK is pretty good

My test result was the same as Wengier's. It always says “Bad Format” and won't run properly.

Use FakeDisk

This is because the disk format of the IMG image file is not 1.44M. In fact, for IMG files with nonstandard disk formats, sometimes even UNDISK can't unpack them.

No way! My Super MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk image file MSDOS710.IMG is a standard 1.44MB format. Why can't it be unpacked either?

I just tried it again. I don't know what was used to make your img file, probably WinImage. I used hd to reread the file information and then regenerate a new img file. The file size was much smaller. This img made with hd-copy can be loaded with lxd.

I really haven't used WinImage to make IMG files before (I had only used it a few times for testing before, and never actually used it to make IMG files). I've always used HD-COPY to make IMG files (including this MSDOS710.IMG)~~

Could it be that when making it, full-disk read was enabled, so even the areas with no data were read and written into the img file? Otherwise maybe hd-copy was modified..... hehe

That fakedisk really is pretty good. Unfortunately, when it is virtualizing, it can't coexist with the real A drive.. unless you disable it or exit.
