These days, I used my spare time to study making a USB flash drive bootable with grub4dos and have some gains and progress. I'll write down some of my insights to share with everyone:
1. All the required resources can be found on Baidu: a 22.1m streamlined pe.gho (a 32m old USB flash drive can also be used); ghostexp.exe (ghost image browser) can be found in symantec ghost11; the Chinese version of winimage8.0; the latest version of grub4dos.
2. Production steps:
Step 1: Use ghostexp.exe to open the pe.gho file, select all the files inside, right-click - extract, and extract the files in the gho image to a folder you randomly create (or name it yourself) and put it there, okay.
Step 2: Open winimage, create a new blank ima image, select "Choose custom image format" for the format, confirm, then a box "Edit FAT image size" pops up, don't change it, still click confirm, and save.
Step 3: Use winimage to open the blank ima just created, select "Image" - then select "Boot sector properties" - click "win NT/2K/XP", confirm. This image is given the boot sector property of the windows NT/2K/XP type, and okay again.
Step 4: Use winimage to open the blank ima just created (already given the boot property) (Am I a bit wordy?); select "Image" - then select "Add a folder", select the "New folder" you created in step 1 (the file name is what you named yourself just now), confirm, a box pops up asking if you want to add n files, click "Yes", whoosh, it quickly adds the pe files to your blank image, and okay again. So far, the pe.ima image is successfully created (only 22.5m big oh).
Step 5: Add pe.ima to your grub4dos menu, a 32m old USB flash drive can be easily installed! Those who don't know how to use grub4dos please raise your hand!
