When I powered it on today, the CPU fan and case fan connected to the motherboard both stopped working at the same time!!! (There are two 3-pin fan headers on the motherboard. I tried swapping in a good fan, and it still didn't help.) My initial conclusion is that the two 3-pin fan headers on the motherboard aren't supplying power, but they couldn't both fail at the same time, could they?? Please have an expert give the reason and a solution. (Don't just say it's a motherboard problem and tell me to replace the motherboard!!! :))

It boots and works normally!! I measured with a multimeter, and both 3-pin fan headers have voltage (12V)?? Why is there power, but neither fan spins???? Could there be a problem in the power supply circuit!!!

Why not just connect the fan's power cable to another power connector?

The following is quoted from pizigao at 2003-6-14 13:06:55:Have you tried testing the fan on another machine? |

Take the motherboard out and check whether there are any bad solder joints on the back. In this kind of situation, there's really no other way besides checking it yourself.

It's possible the fan control IC is bad. Either send it in for repair, or buy a fan that connects to the power supply connector.
