MSDOS 7.1 Boot Disk Issues
I did some tests
1)
After selecting option 1, it is incompatible with NTFS4DOS 1.9, and also incompatible with 1.4. The phenomenon is that the NT partition cannot be found.
I don't know which driver is mismounted. Just mounting HIMEM.SYS and EMM386 alone can load NTFS4DOS.
Other menus haven't been tested.
More interestingly, NTFS4DOS 1.9 doesn't run when installed on a floppy disk, but 1.4 does.
2) Can't find the FC and COMP external commands. ROM-DOS doesn't have them either. Only the complete MS-DOS 71 can be found.
3) I found that the HIMEM of ROM-DOS can be compressed with UPX. After compression, it is only 3K and can still be used normally.
EMM386 is also small in volume in ROM-DOS.
Using MI.COM from PCTOOLS instead of MEM can also save a lot of disk space. 8.4k
XCOPY can be replaced with ROM-DOS, which is only one file. Whether it supports Chinese characters hasn't been tested yet.
