Why are there always people with this much DIY spirit?
Things like “Starting 98” don't get in the way anyway... do you really have to remove it?

Hehe, it really doesn't mean much, but part of playing with operating systems like DOS and Linux is for DIY.
In my humble opinion, operating systems like Linux and DOS, compared with something like Windows, are like compatible PCs versus brand-name PCs. What task you want to accomplish isn't what's important (if that were the case, you might as well use Windows); the key is enjoying the fun of DIY!
I've already tested the OP's task. You can modify it with tools like UltraEdit (just change text such as Starting Windows 98), but you must make sure the number of bytes modified is exactly the same, otherwise it won't boot!

When my Super MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk starts up, it shows "Starting MS-DOS 7.1" instead of "Starting Windows 98". Download link:

Note: this IO.SYS is already very different from the original IO.SYS, and it's also smaller and faster.

Simple, no need to bother with UALTRAEDIT. No need to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut; EDIT is enough. EDIT 70 or EDIT 71 will do. But the byte count must not be less.
