A few days ago a friend told me that all the icons on his desktop were gone, and Outlook also wouldn't work, so I took a look. I found that there was only one user on his computer, Administrator. After entering set in CMD, I discovered that the environment variable
USERPROFILE had been changed. Originally it was:
USERPROFILE=C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator
After the change it became USERPROFILE=C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.cn33;
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator

cn33 is the computer name. The desktop ended up pointing to the folder with the computer-name suffix, which made the desktop completely empty!
Checking the system users still showed only one user!

I'd also like to ask everyone for some advice on this~!
