Making the cmd window more user-friendly - China DOS Union Forum

I saw a Telnet login interface on the Shuimu Tsinghua BBS. It is very similar to a cmd window,
but it feels much better than a cmd window: colored text, and especially the function of using the up, down, left, and right arrow keys to choose and enter different module areas is very convenient.
As far as I know, when a cmd window offers users choices, it seems they always have to type a letter or a number and then press Enter to confirm, which is time-consuming and troublesome. So my question is:
How can a cmd window also let users choose operations with the up, down, left, and right arrow keys? (It would be even better if it could also use colored text.)
You can go there and experience for yourselves how convenient and user-friendly that Telnet login interface is.
