In a Win98 and Win2000 dual-boot system, F8 is already used by Win2000. Is there any shortcut way to enter DOS?

First press F8, choose Win98, and while pressing Enter, hold down the Ctrl key again. Then you can return to the Win98 startup menu and choose 5. DOS command line.

I use a batch file written under W98.
At startup, first choose W98 in the boot menu, then choose DOS in the W98 startup menu. There are two advantages to doing this: 1. No need to wait so carefully; you can deal with it calmly. 2. You can make multiple menu choices to suit various needs. For example: with CD-ROM drive; without CD-ROM drive; with ROM virtual disk; Chinese DOS; NDOS; directly entering programs such as GHOST, etc. Very convenient. |

If you installed WIN2000 from under WIN98, then a multi-boot menu will appear. You choose to enter WIN98, but at that point your reaction speed is put to the test. There is a very simple method: after moving the highlight bar to WIN98, first hold down CTRL and then press Enter at the same time (not what KO said, pressing Enter first and then CTRL; that way your reaction has to be extremely fast, and it may not succeed every time, while my method works every time). Then the WIN98 multi-menu will appear. Just choose command prompt. There is another method as well: before installing WIN2000, set BOOTGUI in MSDOS.SYS under WIN98 to 0. After that, when starting 98, it will first enter DOS7.10. If you want to enter WIN98, just type WIN.

Sheesh, what difference is there between “while pressing Enter, hold down Ctrl again” and “first hold down CTRL and then press Enter at the same time”? Hehe ... I never said “press Enter first and then CTRL.” But this later method of yours is pretty good!

The most suitable method is to find a small hard disk and install DOS on it

Could you post your batch file for everyone to share? It would be best if you could explain it too. Thanks, expert!!!

The batch file has to correspond to the directories on the hard disk, so it would be useless even if you took mine. You have to write it yourself.

Before the dual-boot menu appears during startup, press F8, or after choosing WIN98, press SHIFT+F5 as fast as possible and that will do it

The best solution is to use Spfdisk to create three primary partitions, one for DOS, one for 98, and one for 2000, then use its boot function to create a boot menu. That way it's both convenient and safe!!! This is how I do it on my own computer

But there is one problem with spfdisk: the files in each system partition cannot be shared

Of course they can be shared. Looks like the expert forgot to disable its “hide other primary partitions” option, hehe
