My computer has an 845E motherboard, the CPU is C1.7G, and the hard drive is 40G. No matter what operating system I install, including WIN98, ME, 2000, and XP, every time the machine starts up it hangs. If I restart it once, then it's fine. I don't know why. Please, experts, help me!!!!

845 motherboards have serious compatibility problems. I suggest replacing it or upgrading.

The following is quoted from Wengier's post at 2003-6-9 20:04:53:

I've never heard of that kind of problem! Where did you hear that from?? The 845E front-side bus is 533MHZ, while the C41.7 is 400MHZ. Although they don't match that well, some people did it to leave themselves a way to upgrade to a P4 later on! That kind of combination is also very good. As for having to restart, I think it has a direct relationship with the power supply!

It seems like the motherboard drivers were installed in the wrong order

The 845 definitely does not have any compatibility problems. The problem you're having is related to many accessories/components, and what everyone above said is possible, but I think it's more likely the motherboard itself. If you can replace it, replace it. I've also run into this kind of problem before, all with some cheap motherboards . After replacing it, everything was fine!

It should be insufficient power from the PSU. I suggest trying a different power supply.

Could it be because you installed all the drivers in one go without restarting in between? That can cause internal conflicts in the system!
