Sometimes my beloved PC has no sound after startup, and even the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen is missing. Please give me some advice, experts!
PS: I have WIN98 installed

I think it's a driver problem, especially with those so-called Yamaha 734 sound cards (fake goods that basically don't even exist)

If it is a Yamaha 734, you can use HWINFO to check the chip model. I ran into one before, and only after reinstalling the system did I find out. Later I checked and it turned out to be a relabeled Ajiete 3238.

Please click Start, Settings, Control Panel, open "Multimedia", click the "Audio" tab, and make sure "Show volume control on the taskbar" is checked. If it is grayed out and cannot be selected, that means the driver is not installed!

This kind of problem should be related to the sound card's quality. Usually it is fine after a cold boot. You can use HWINFO to check the main sound card chip, then try updating the driver.
