I have a question to discuss with Wengier. In your Super Boot Disk MSDOS7.1, you used the CAB compressed format to save space, and also used virtual memory to extract the software in the CAB into virtual memory. I wonder whether you noticed that the boot time is too long! I think you could use HD-COPY to format the floppy disk as 1.72M, put commonly used software directly into it, and give up using this virtual disk thing at boot time. That would save quite a bit of time during boot. Formatting the floppy disk as 1.72M is not an excessive requirement for the diskette; I have been using it all along. At the same time, you can fit in more useful software!

1.68M can't be used as a bootable CD

I agree with the poster above. I use NERO to burn boot disks, and a disk formatted as 1.68M cannot boot.

Thank you for your suggestion! Completely dropping CAB may not be very practical. But I could try reducing the number of compressed files in the CAB to speed up booting.

If a 1.72M disk really can't be made into a CD image, then that is quite troublesome too..

Personally, I think
1.44mb is still a bit more reliable!
I don't even know how many disks I've already worn out!

Or maybe everyone uses it differently. I myself can generally handle problems just by booting the software, and have never used the tools on CDs.
With 1.72M (that is, 1.68M) software, I myself have not encountered disks going bad; maybe it's a software issue!

1.68MB floppies are generally still fairly stable. Unfortunately, they indeed cannot be used as a standard 1.44MB bootable CD image..
