I'm using the command prompt under XP, and it seems it doesn't recognize long folder names with spaces.
For example, if I enter start d:\program files\internet explorer it gives an error. Is it because of a pirated copy, or is it just like that by default? |

Yes, just add quotation marks and it'll work.

It probably won't work either way, try using the short filename
start d:\progra~1\intern~1 |

No, that shouldn't be the case. Both methods should work, that is, using either the short filename or the long filename in quotes.

Or just go directly to drive d, where the folder is, and enter: cd d:\program files\internet explorer

Strange. start "d:\program files\internet explorer" doesn't work. Still only the 3.8 format works.

Actually what I want is to open iexplorer.exe in this folder. I've already tried the short filename, and it works, but it still can't call IE.

Yes. I made a mistake that was neither advanced nor low-level. I thought IE's program name was iexplorer, but in fact it's iexplore. Looks like making assumptions just doesn't work.
