I support setting up a DOS Union. From the rapid development of the forum over these past few days, I have realized the importance of combining everyone's strength. Only by learning from each other's strong points can we get our DOS to develop.
So how exactly should the Union unite? Right now, using a shared guestbook and forum has already successfully taken the first step, but whether the sites that need it should next be combined into one whole is worth discussing.
If the participating sites are unified into a single site, with each person responsible for different work, the advantage is unified management, avoiding waste of resources, and the Union's organization would be tighter, and everyone's relationship would also be closer.
But I do not really agree with unifying into one website, because unification has the following disadvantages:
1. Space capacity and stability issues. If joined together, first of all, naturally, larger website space would be needed, and that kind of space is not easy to find. Another issue is stability. This needs no explanation; everyone understands it. If this space is unstable or even cannot operate for a fairly long time, what should the Union do? We are not large sites like NetEase or Sina, using professional servers + redundancy + 24-hour professional maintenance.
2. Another is the human risk issue. I do not doubt the character of my friends at all, but sometimes it is also a good thing to first imagine the consequences more seriously. For example, if I had a big quarrel with Wengier, it would be extremely easy for me to delete his whole site in anger, because we share the same space. Of course, the possibility of such a serious situation happening on the Union site is very small; the greater possibility is instead encountering destruction by hackers. But this kind of destruction would also be fatal to the Union, and might also cause mutual suspicion and distrust!
3. There is also the issue of new allies joining. If he also has his own website, what should be done? Tell him to shut down his site before coming in?
4. There is also the issue of individuality. We all join this Union as individuals. Aside from the common trait of liking DOS, each of us also has our own individuality. For example, I want to research input methods; after unification, where should this content be placed? Make another website?
So I feel it would be better to keep it divided into several websites, and carry out unification and division of labor/cooperation to a certain extent. Although in this way the Union would be relatively loose, in reality we come from all over the country, and it is inherently not easy to form a tight group. Also, in the special environment of the network, this would be easier to do well. When the time is truly ripe and it is necessary to unify together, it will still not be too late for us to unify the websites then.
This is a bit of my own opinion; please also talk about your own opinions.
