After reading the “Microsoft secret memos,” I feel Microsoft also has some things worth learning from.
First, it cannot be denied that Microsoft’s sense of crisis and sense of innovation are very strong. When DOS was still thriving, it had already developed WINDOWS. When DRDOS came out and posed a threat to MSDOS, WINDOWS had already become an insurmountable barrier. While WINDOWS was still thriving, Microsoft was already developing WIN95, and as a result, when IBM’s OS2 came out and did better than WIN3X, it was already powerless against WIN95.
In addition, Microsoft always puts ordinary users first in development. So even though what it develops is not especially brilliant technically, it can always win users’ approval. Just take the other day when I installed WINXP: I booted from the CD and then it installed automatically. After WINXP finished installing, all the drivers for the graphics card, sound card, network card, etc. had already been configured automatically. My Philips 14-inch monitor was even set to 1024*768, something I myself had wanted to achieve under WIN98 but failed to do. If I were an ordinary user, I would definitely be full of gratitude toward Microsoft, because I could install and use WINXP myself without needing the help of so-called experts. Ordinary users simply do not care whether your technology is advanced or whether there are any unethical deals behind it. The key point is whether they can use the computer and enjoy the fun and convenience it brings.
