After countless failures, I finally found a way to access the Internet with ADSL under DOS. Now I post it here for everyone to communicate together. Please refer to the relevant articles on this site for the installation and use of the software. The following are the necessary modifications I made to the two configuration files pepa.ini and wattcp.cfg (among which 202.96.209.XXX is the DNS in Shanghai, and the modem used is Sweet 8000R):

UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) - memory direct access, is a kind of hard disk technology, which allows the hard disk to communicate directly with the memory without much participation of the CPU. In this way, it is conducive to greatly improving the efficiency of the entire computer system


Starting from CF spec 3.0, the UDMA (Ultra DMA) high-speed transmission specification is introduced, which expands the maximum rate to more than 66MB/s at one stroke


At present, the technical grades of CF cards are divided into many types: CF spec 2.0: PIO Mode 5/6 (max 16MB/sec), CF spec 3.0: UDMA mode 4 (max 66MB/sec), CF spec 4.0: UDMA mode 5 (max 100MB/sec), CF spec 4.1: UDMA mode 6 (max 133MB/sec). However, due to the limitation of the maximum speed of the USB2.0 interface of 480Mbps (60MB/s), the USB interface of the current home computer cannot realize the standard of CF3.0 UDMA mode4. As far as the existing equipment is concerned, only IEEE 1394 (firewire 800) can withstand such a high transmission speed.


To enjoy the high-speed specifications of CF spec 4.0/4.1, the following necessary elements must be had:

Ø UDMA card reader + high-speed transmission (such as ATP's new multi-in-one card reader, which supports UDMA and SDHC specifications)


Ø Equipment supporting UDMA (such as digital SLR cameras supporting UDMA)

A: Some "Tricks" for DOS Applications

1. Make Smart Use of ". .. , "

In DOS, "." represents the current directory, and ".." represents the parent directory. Therefore, "CD .." returns to the parent directory; "DEL ." deletes all files in the current directory; "DIR," lists all files with attributes; "ATTRIB," removes all attributes of files, etc.

2. Construct a "Fully Chinese - Localized" DOS Environment

For beginners with poor English proficiency, facing the "foreign texts" in DOS is always a bit intimidating. At this time, you can use the HELP.HLP of Chinese DOS 6.22 to replace the HELP.HLP of Western - style DOS 6.22, and then cooperate with the dynamic translation function of Tianhui Chinese System, and you can get a "fully Chinese - localized" Western - style DOS 6.22, which is very convenient.
