Title: The Eternal DOS
Posted at: BBS Shuimu Tsinghua Station (Sun Apr 7 12:10:23 2002)
I used to think that in the Windows era DOS no longer had any place to show its abilities, but it was only yesterday that I came to understand the charm and power of DOS. Yesterday a friend's computer broke down and he called me over to fix it. He had formatted drive C,
but now the operating system wouldn't install. When I heard that I was a bit dumbfounded too, because before this I had always been struggling around under Windows,
and could be said to know absolutely nothing about DOS. Now that the operating system was gone, what I was facing
was a pitch-black screen and DOS commands, and I really had no idea where to begin. From that moment on I truly came to know DOS.
After getting my friend's computer working again, I got myself a 386 laptop and started cramming DOS like crazy. Now I really am obsessed
with DOS. Although DOS is hard to use, I think it absolutely will not and absolutely should not withdraw from the stage of history.
I think it's wrong that XP today has no DOS mode. I think we should have an eternal DOS.
