I took a look at the Win2000 boot disk today and found that it doesn't have files like io.sys, config.autoexec, etc.

Windows NT/2000/XP and Windows 9x use different methods for booting from CD — the No emulation method. This method does not use the files on a floppy disk to boot the system, (so it does not have IO.sys, msdos.sys). Instead, it uses a boot sector to load the Windows NT/2000/XP setup process.
Its boot process is as follows:
CD boot boot->setupldr->ntdetect->load drivers->read txtsetup.sif->start CD installation

Then if I want to burn a bootable XP installation CD, how do I do it?

Do you want to burn a single-boot one or a multi-boot one? Actually, to make a bootable XP installation CD, you can use either the 98 boot method, that is, the DOS7.1 boot method, or the NT boot method.
For a boot CD to boot, it must load boot files. What 98 uses is a floppy disk image file, that is, it simulates booting from a floppy. This floppy must be a boot disk; it can be an ordinary WIN98 boot floppy or a boot floppy you made yourself. (Most of the boot floppies made by the moderators on this forum can be used as the boot image file for a CD.) There are two methods: one is to put the prepared boot floppy directly into the floppy drive, the other is to use WINIMAGE to make the boot image file. When burning, choose CD—ROM (Boot); general burning software has this option. In the boot method, choose one of the two methods mentioned above.
There is also another method, which is to use WINISO or ULTRAISO to make the entire CD image file (including boot) or make it into a virtual CD-ROM. Then just burn it directly with burning software.
If you use the NT (2000 or XP) boot method, its production method can use WINISO to extract the boot files from the original CD, or you can use an already-made boot image file.
As for the WIN2000 and WINXP boot image files (NT boot method), I'm uploading them now. Everyone just needs to add them in using the correct burning method. Actually, WINPE can be done the same way. If the WINPE you downloaded cannot boot, just add either one of the two files below. (Note: it must be burned using the correct method to boot.)
