I think if this forum merged with DOS Home, maybe it would do more to promote and develop DOS. I wonder what the moderators think?
I just had this idea :) |

If they sincerely want to join forces, then fine.
But I think if... it would still be better not to join!!! |

The purpose of DOS Home is not to develop DOS, but to maintain and rescue systems. Didn't you see that it even set up an emergency rescue hotline? It doesn't care whether the cat is black or white, as long as it can solve system problems, anything goes (of course DOS is the main thing). To be exact, it uses DOS mainly for practical purposes, and it's a personal website, so I believe he also would not want to merge with the DOS Union.

I also don't support joining with “DOS Home.” From the emails I sent him before, I could tell he is rather conservative and probably doesn't really intend to develop DOS.

Actually I think his conservatism is exactly his special characteristic!!! Being able to help people solve computer problems, personally I also think DOS should focus on practicality. Developing DOS is not something a few of us can achieve just by talking about it, it has to rely on the broad mass of users. So I think that in developing DOS, we also must not forget helping most users rescue their systems. This is DOS's most useful function!!!!

Speaking of conservatism, I think our forum also seems rather “conservative.” We only keep emphasizing development and emphasizing what's new, but real development, real new things, have to be practical in actual use—“everything proceeds from reality.” Even if we developed a DOS system more convenient than XP right now, I think most users would still choose XP. That's the reality. How do we bring users back to our forum, and make them remember DOS that has been covered in dust for so long?—Solve practical problems!!!!

That works too. If he is willing to join forces, then let him be specifically responsible for solving computer problems, while we concentrate on DOS development matters.

I think it seems everyone is a bit rejecting him :)

If he can join forces, then of course that would be even better, and I also agree with Brother Chanzong's practicality view. This is also one of DOS's major characteristics. The problem is (just my feeling) that he is rather strongly individualistic. He probably would not agree to join forces, and even if we did join, it would be hard to unify our thinking. The differences Teacher Mo mentioned might appear.

You can try sending him an invitation. If we really can join forces, that would be even better, and at the same time it would also attract his user base over here. But I don't think the chances are very high.

I also think the moderator of DOS Home may not be willing to join this union. Of course, no matter for what reason, everyone is contributing to the popularization and promotion of DOS. Even if we don't go together, we should still count as friends making a common effort. Don't do anything targeted against them, otherwise it would only make us seem overbearing.

If the moderator of DOS Home is willing to join this union, I believe this would be an excellent integration. There really are a lot of DOS experts online. Bringing the experts together is itself a task, and also a stage victory for our union. As for any unexpected disagreements after the moderator of DOS Home joins this union, I think the members of the moderator team are equal, and can discuss and resolve them. If opinions really cannot be unified, then we can adopt democratic centralism, and finally submit it to "Union Leader" Wengier to decide according to the opinion of the majority of moderators.

Just hanging around the forum without taking action won't do. The most important thing is to contact Old Ge from DOS Home first and see what his attitude is before talking further. Whether he is conservative or pursues the new, for our development and growth, we should adopt the policy of “letting a hundred flowers bloom, letting a hundred schools of thought contend, and embracing inclusiveness.” From DOS Home's friendly links, you can see that he still holds an approving attitude toward us.

All the moderators should jointly send Boss Ge an email, with WENGIER drafting it, cordially inviting him to join the DOS Union and cooperate. Let's see how he responds.

I support joining forces.
But then again, even if we don't join forces, it's nothing really, right? As long as everyone is doing their part to develop DOS and promote DOS, that's enough. |
