Ninety-Nine Hairpins
A king had seven daughters. These seven beautiful princesses were the king's pride. Their jet-black, beautiful long hair was famous far and wide, so the king gave each of them one hundred pretty hairpins.
One morning, the eldest princess woke up and, as usual, used hairpins to arrange her beautiful hair, but discovered that one hairpin was missing. So she secretly went to the second princess's room and took one hairpin. When the second princess found that one hairpin was missing, she went to the third princess's room and took one hairpin; when the third princess found that one hairpin was missing, she also secretly took one of the fourth princess's hairpins; the fourth princess did the same and took a hairpin from the fifth princess; the fifth princess likewise took a hairpin from the sixth princess; the sixth princess had no choice but to take one from the seventh princess. And so, the seventh princess was left with only ninety-nine hairpins.
The next day, a handsome prince from a neighboring kingdom suddenly came to the palace. He said to the king, “Yesterday my lark carried back a hairpin. I think it must belong to one of the princesses, and this really is a marvelous kind of fate. I wonder which princess lost a hairpin?”
When the princesses heard this, all of them thought to themselves, “It was me, it was me.” But each of them clearly had a full hundred hairpins pinned in her hair, so they were all greatly annoyed, yet unable to say anything. Only the seventh princess stepped forward and said, “I lost a hairpin.” As soon as she finished speaking, her beautiful long hair, lacking that one hairpin, all fell loose. The prince could not help staring in amazement.
As for how the story ends, naturally the prince and princess lived happily together ever after.
Why is it that whenever there is a flaw, we desperately try to make up for it?
A hundred hairpins are like a perfect, complete life. Lose one hairpin, and that completeness has a flaw; but it is precisely because of that flaw that the future gains endless chances and endless possibilities. Why shouldn't that be something to be happy about!
The flaws that cannot be avoided in life—how do you face them?
Avoiding them does not necessarily mean you can escape; facing them does not necessarily hurt the most;
Being alone does not necessarily mean unhappiness; getting something does not necessarily mean it will last forever;
Losing something does not necessarily mean it will never return; turning away does not necessarily mean weakness;
Don't rush to say there is no other choice, and don't think this world has only right and wrong,
The answers to many things are not just a single one,
So we always have a road we can take.
If you can find a reason to be sad, you can certainly find happiness too,
Those who know how to let go find ease,
Those who know how to forget find freedom,
Those who know how to care find friends,
Cold weather is not truly cold; a chilled heart is what is cold,
May your heart always be warm........
