The active partition is in NTFS format, and there is a FAT32 logical partition. I want to make a DOS/XP dual boot. How should I do it?

How do I do it? Could you be a bit more specific? And preferably after XP is already installed. I don't want to reinstall XP again.

Dual boot and booting from a logical partition (which should be understood as booting from a logical partition other than drive C) are two different things. A 98/XP dual boot or a 98/2000 dual boot is, in essence, still booting from drive C. Now to answer the OP's question: can DOS boot from a logical partition? The active partition is NTFS, there is a FAT32 logical partition, and you want to make a DOS/XP dual boot. How should this be done? DOS can boot from a logical partition other than drive C. But you need special boot manager software to really make it happen.

For example, SPFDISK. But I don't recommend booting DOS from a logical partition.

SPFDISK cannot boot DOS from a logical partition. Strictly speaking, DOS cannot boot from a logical partition...

DOS can boot from a logical partition other than drive C. But there are two conditions: 1. it must be created as a primary partition. 2. it must be active. DOS can have at most 4 bootable primary partitions. Each primary partition can have one system installed. But only one primary partition can be active. If you want to boot each system, you have to activate a different partition at startup. For that you need special boot manager software, such as: System Commander, to really make it happen.

The principle is that whichever system is booted becomes c: at startup. So it is not a logical partition......

After getting pointers from several experts, I gave up the idea of booting DOS from a logical partition. I used pqmagic to split out another primary partition, activated it, installed ms－dos7.1, then used the XP installation disc to install to another partition. After the files were copied and it automatically restarted from the hard disk, I canceled the installation, deleted the files generated in the installation directory, then modified boot.ini under the active partition, restarted, and OK. But I’ve never used XP’s repair function before; supposedly using repair is faster.
