For example, a shortcut key similar to "one-click recovery". When booting to select the operating system to boot, just press the pre-defined shortcut key in advance, and you can boot into the selected operating system. Can this operation be achieved in grub?

If there is no such function, can any expert please add this function?

In the DOS partition software spfdisk.exe, there is this pre-defined boot menu shortcut key operation. However, the boot operation function of this software is limited, the interface is monotonous, and it is a bit outdated. But it can be used for reference.

grub4dos can now locate the menu via the number keys and then press Enter to execute this menu

Keyboard -> Menu
0->1
1->2
2->3
n->n+1

Or does the LZ mean the hotkey to boot GRUB4DOS?

Note that what I emphasize is "one-key" operation - only one key needs to be pressed, just like in some brand computers (especially laptops) where pressing a certain special defined key can achieve a predefined function.

In the information provided above, there are still two independent actions - + , which is not yet a real "one-key" operation.

The "one-key operation" function should still have certain universal significance, especially in the case of "self-made" one-key recovery systems or when installing multiple operating systems on one computer. This "one-key" operation function will then show extremely convenient and fast characteristics.

The default startup item doesn't require you to press any keys.

Let me give an example.
I have 5 systems installed on my computer, with XP as the default and the 5th one being DOS. Sometimes I need to enter DOS to manage the entire hard disk or file system. The current situation is that to boot into DOS, I have to press the down arrow key 5 times continuously on the GRUB interface, or press the number key "5" and then the Enter key. I can't achieve a "one - key" operation.
I heard that a foreign enthusiast installed 36 operating systems in one computer to test a boot manager. I wonder if he had to keep tapping the keyboard for a long time to boot the 36th system...
Using the IBM - style one - key restore function requires setting aside a part of the hard disk space for backup, and some people don't like this method. And when I install computers for others, I usually need to use a self - made "one - key recovery" function to enter DOS to start automatic system restoration without partitioning backup space. But even with such a simple, fool - proof operation, those fools still can't remember. And essentially, this so - called "one - key recovery" isn't truly one - key (you still need to press Enter to complete it). So, I raise the question in the title!
It seems that this difficult problem may not be solved easily! I hope he can see it!

If you use grub4dos only for booting DOS, it can be done in one click. The one - key restore of IBM style can only do one thing. You want it to be able to do many things and also be one - key, but it's not possible at present.

Lianjiang's analysis is very thorough. The realization of a function doesn't happen overnight. It has to undergo long-term testing, provide and analyze and summarize opinions from multiple aspects and in an all-round way, as well as logical rationality, aesthetics, and so on and so forth.

A barber, accidentally cutting too much on the left, then goes to fix the right, and as a result, the right is also messed up, and then has to fix the left again.

Even small things may have the possibility of reworking after being messed up. Small things should also be taken seriously.

Do you know spfdisk.exe? It was written by Feng Xuping from Taiwan. The boot management function in it is derived from the open-source LILO. You might as well experience the defined virtual key function in it.

Also, grub4dos is just DOS...

It is suggested to read the instructions of grub4dos first before giving opinions.

Also, grub4dos is just a program under DOS, that is, it can realize entering the GRUB boot manager under DOS. The thing that really plays a role is GRUB itself! The way I usually do it is that once I enter GRUB, I install the main boot record (MBR) of GRUB on the hard disk, and then I don't need to use grub4dos anymore.

It seems that our Comrade Budian is too tired to think about developing this new function!
