After countless failures, I finally found a way to use ADSL to get online under DOS, so I’m posting it here for everyone to discuss. For software installation and usage, please refer to the related articles on this site. Below are the necessary changes I made to the two config files pepa.ini and wattcp.cfg (the 202.96.209.XXX entries are Shanghai DNS, and the modem used is a Sweatt 8000R): pepa.ini: -m 192.168.0.8 -n 202.96.209.5 -n 202.96.209.133 -n userid,password wattcp.cfg: my_ip = 192.168.0.8 netmask = 255.255.255.0 nameserver=202.96.209.5 nameserver=202.96.209.133 gateway = 192.168.0.1

Awesome. I’ve only used Arachne to get online, and I still haven’t managed to get online with LYNX.

But wengier, I remember you said Arachne is currently the best web browser under DOS, right? But after I tried it, I really can’t praise it. Although Lynx supports Chinese, is it much slower than Arachne? Also, forums are all written in languages like ASP, CSI, PHP, etc., and they don’t seem to support them.

Lynx is a bit faster, and it supports Chinese, ASP, CGI, PHP, Cookies, and part of JavaScript code. Arachne cannot enter this forum, but Lynx and W3M have no problem with it. I don’t think I ever said Arachne is the best Internet browser under DOS. I only said Arachne is the best graphical browser under DOS.

Hehe, Wengier, explain the LYNX settings a bit more specifically. When I ran LYNX directly, it said it couldn’t find the lynx.cfg file, then gave a standard path under LINUX. Later I ran it with LYNX -CFG=LYNX.CFG, and as a result the IP setup failed. Later I changed WATTCP.CFG and then it worked, but it takes a very long time to start, and then I have to press Ctrl+C twice before I can use it…………………… -_-U………………
