I booted with a 98 startup disk but couldn't find the CD - ROM. I need to read files from the CD - ROM under the 98 DOS system. I'm using a PCG - R505 laptop. Is there a way to solve this? I have very little knowledge of DOS. Please simply tell me how to operate, thank you!

Then what interface is your CD drive? It must be that the driver file in the 98 startup disk cannot drive your CD drive.

Try to boot using the USB method from the DOS 7.10 boot disk. USBCD.SYS supports SCSI and USB optical drives.

The boot disk you made, did you use the command "SYS C:"? If yes, it means the driver disk you made doesn't have the CD-ROM boot program. You can make a boot disk in the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel of Win98 to boot the CD-ROM.

Did you use the command "SYS C:" to make the bootable disk? If yes, it means the boot disk you made doesn't have the CD-ROM boot program. You can make a boot disk in the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel of Win98 to enable CD-ROM booting. Most of the time, it's correct. Hehe... But it can't be absolute. What if the maker added the CD-ROM driver by himself? The latter part is also correct in general, but for non-IDE CD-ROMs under NB, the drivers that come with Win98 may not be able to drive them.

The interface of the CD - ROM is 1394, and the Sony manufacturer also has the driver program under DOS. I booted with DOS 7.1, and then I couldn't see the USB flash drive, saying there was an unignorable error?! Now my problem is: I installed the XP system, and now I need to view a file, and this file runs under the 98 system. Because in the DOS state, the CD - ROM of the notebook can't be used, how to solve it?! I copied the files on the CD to the hard disk, booted with DOS, and executed ntfsdos.exe (a program to read data from the NTFS partition in DOS), but still couldn't map the NTFS partition to a drive letter, and couldn't execute the program.
