Can an ISO file be made into a bootable CD? Or does it have to be extracted before it can boot~~~?
Also, how can a 1.3G file be burned onto a 700M CDR and still be used as a bootable CD!

Q: Can an ISO file be made into a bootable CD?
A: A bootable ISO can boot, a non-bootable ISO cannot boot;
actually, saying an ISO file itself is bootable or non-bootable isn't really accurate.
Q: Or does it have to be extracted before it can boot~~~?
A: An ISO file is not a compressed file. (But if you want to think of it that way, that's not entirely impossible either.)
An ISO file itself cannot boot. You have to burn it onto a CD (please note, not copy it onto the CD, but use the “burn image file” function in your burning software to burn it to the disc). If your ISO file is an image file of a bootable CD, then yes, it can. Otherwise, no.
Q: Also, how can a 1.3G file be burned onto a 700M CDR and still be used as a bootable CD!
A: For this you can use the software cdimage. (Although it looks like a DOS program, it can only be used under windowed systems above win2000.) For the specific method, please search with google...

1. Whether it can boot has no causal relationship with ISO. ISO is like the IMG used for disks, it is only a CD image. Whether it can boot depends on whether the format of that image is the format of a boot disk.
2. It should be said that it is impossible to burn 1.3G of files onto a 700M disc. Some all-in-one discs use an algorithm called MD5 to point duplicate files to one address. It doesn't really write 1.3G of content. As for software that supports MD5, I know of 2:
(1) CDIMAGE The earliest all-in-one discs were all made with this software. Microsoft's version is an internal tool, and it can only be used on NT-class systems
(2) MKISOFS A program written by Germans, a rising star.

One more thing: ISO is not a compression format, it is a CD image. Its size is the same as the size of the burned CD. You can think of it as the IMG of a floppy disk.

Teamwork !

Then how can I tell whether an ISO file is in boot disk format? Can you teach me?

I have a dumb method: download winiso and use it to open your iso file. At the lower part of the left window it says: bootable CD or non-bootable CD

Thanks a lot for everyone's help, but I still don't understand: in nero, how can I make an ISO boot file into a bootable CD?
It seems that inside it you can only choose files in IMA format, and if I use all file types then I don't know whether it can be successfully made into a
bootable CD.
I checked it with winiso and it says it is a bootable CD!

In nero, turn off the “wizard” and “new compilation”, click the “File” menu, then click “Burn Image File”...
As for the rest, you'll definitely know how.
