I don't quite get it either, but you can still see the WIN98 LOGO when it starts, and after that it goes straight into the game. It should be done with something like DOS batch commands.

The games you mentioned probably cannot run independently without the operating system.
You'd better first make sure whether your game is a game under WINDOWS or under DOS.

WIN98 has the Autoexec.bat function, so it should be done on the WIN98 system. I don't understand exactly how to set it up, but when I put the sample machine's hard disk into another computer, I found that they were all DOS commands, so I feel this was done with batch commands.

The default configuration of 98 is to automatically append win.com afterward to start the 98 operating interface after the Autoexec.bat items have finished loading; and a game in 98 can never be loaded before Win.com starts.

Because Microsoft systems after 98 all load explorer.exe after startup. Back then, some people changed 98's loading of explorer.exe to Office software, so after startup it would go directly into the Office software and the resource manager could not be used. I believe what the OP is talking about is also this.

I forgot whether to modify system.ini or win.ini (in XP I didn't find explorer.exe being loaded in these two files). It seems that as long as you change the loading of explorer.exe to the corresponding path\*.exe it will be ok

The Autoexec.bat method before win.com is ineffective, and after win.com starts 99 it also won't load Autoexec.bat, so Autoexec.bat alone is useless

Or put the game's shortcut into the Startup group of the Start Menu so it launches automatically after boot and enters the game interface

Modify the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI file
Change
[BOOT]
SHELL=EXPLORER.EXE
and modify EXPLORER.EXE to your program path and name, for example C:\GAME\游戏菜单.EXE
After startup it will automatically launch C:\GAME\游戏菜单.EXE
If EXPLORER.EXE is not started, then after closing this program it will shut down.
