China DOS Union

The files inside a bootable ghost2003 are:
autoexec.bat
command.com
ibmbio.com
ibmdos.com
mouse.com
mouse.ini
and a folder named ghost, with ghostpe.exe inside it.
If I read it with WinImage and make it into an img, it can boot and run, but if I extract this img onto the hard disk and then make it into an img again, it can no longer boot. Why is that???

The boot information was lost... Try it with a Win98 boot disk... same thing...

Just copy ghost directly to drive C, then shut down and switch to DOS,

Please use winimage to modify the contents of the img file. That way it won't affect the boot information!

First use WINIMAGE to open the original image, then --->Image---->Boot sector properties----save

Then open the new image you made------>Image---->Boot sector properties----open

This operation saves the floppy's boot sector, the first sector of the floppy, 512 bytes.

Floppies are FAT12, hard disks are generally at least FAT16. The boot program size in the boot sectors of FAT12/FAT16 is the same, so they can replace each other, but FAT32 may not work. FAT32 uses dozens more bytes than 12/16, so it may not be replaceable.

The key is to save the Boot Sector information; the SRCBOOT command will do it.

Geez, man, if your IMG is bootable (contains boot information), then as long as you don't delete the system files in winimage (command.com,ibmbio.com,ibmdos.com), you can change the other files however you like, it doesn't matter. Once saved, it should still boot. If not, then you made a mistake while using winimage... (that seems like a Windows software usage problem, hehe...)

Because GHOST uses IBM's PC-DOS, while the 98 boot disk uses MS's MS-DOS. Using MS's boot sector with IBM's boot files definitely won't work.
