I have a laptop (DELL Latitude CPI A 400). Right now I'm using an external optical drive enclosure + a Samsung 32x Combo drive, DIY'd into a USB external Combo drive. The original optical drive is already broken. How can I boot from the Combo drive?

Right, it's a CD burner + DVD two-in-one.

Then just set "boot from USB CD" in the BIOS, and that should do it, right?

The boot options only have:
Internal HDD CD/DVD/CD-RW Driver Modular Bay HDD PCI Slot NIC Dock II /Port II NIC Card Bus NIC Diskette Driver There is no USB CD boot option |

Yours is a laptop, right? Looks like your machine isn't new enough, so it doesn't support USB booting.

Try upgrading the BIOS.
