Sorry, I know someone must have asked this question here before. But I’ve looked for a long time and just couldn’t find any related posts, and on top of that I’m on dial-up, so I really don’t have that much time to search. That’s why I made a new post.
My sound card is INTER AC97. The machine is a Lenovo Tianxi 2 5110, P4, 1.3G. Memory 128. Dual system: 98 & XP.
Right now under XP I’m using a piece of software called SOUNDFX NT, and I can get sound in DOS games, but I can’t find a cracked version of this software, so I can only play for a little while, and the sound is also simulated, not the original sound.
And under 98 this software can’t be used.
At the moment I’ve already added HIMEM and another program in CONFIG。SYS on drive C, supposedly for extended memory. But now I don’t know how to set it up. There’s still no sound. I heard I need to install a DOS sound card driver, but I can’t find one.
What exactly do I have to do to get sound? This problem has been bothering me for one or two years already. I really want to hear those old sounds again. Please, everyone, help me out. If there are older posts, please help me find them. If not, then please help answer this question for me. I kneel here in thanks.

But I don’t have a DOS sound card driver, I can’t find it. Where can I download it?

Yeah, a lot of people say this sound card just can’t produce sound under DOS. I wonder if there’s any possibility at all?

Mine is an SB PCI128 DIGITAL. How should I set it up so that I can have sound in the DOS environment under WIN98SE? Its bundled DOS driver doesn’t seem to work. When I play Flame Dragon Knights 2, I can’t hear any music or sound effects. Running SETSOUND.EXE says it can’t find the hardware device.

I also have an SB PCI 128 Digital sound card! But does “the DOS environment under Win98SE” mean the DOS window in Win98, or the pure MS-DOS 7.10 that comes with Win98?

The following is quoted from Wengier’s post at 2003-5-27 6:25:53:
I also have an SB PCI 128 Digital sound card! But does “the DOS environment under Win98SE” mean the DOS window in Win98, or the pure MS-DOS 7.10 that comes with Win98?

Please tell me the settings for both cases separately. I use Windows often, so the “DOS window in Win98” is more convenient, no need to switch. But “the pure MS-DOS 7.10 that comes with Win98” is easier for getting sound under DOS, and has better compatibility. Don’t laugh at me for being too greedy.

All right, I’ll post the driver procedure for the SB PCI128 sound card in the “DOS Media World” section.
