Post a Chinese low-level format tool, then... but I advise everyone it's best not to low-level format.

I suggest everyone post a fully Chinese multimedia Internet browser instead!

There is a Chinese-localized DM one; it's in the Chinese DM disk under the boot disk section.

I've only tried low-level formatting once. A buddy's hard drive died, and we couldn't even partition it anymore, so I low-level formatted it. It took me a whole night, really scary!!!!

No way!! The last time I low-level formatted an IBM 60GB hard drive, it only took a little over 20 minutes!!

The following is quoted from LanE's post at 2003-5-23 9:39:31: Hehe, that wasn't necessary. If you're doing a low-level format, just low-level formatting the first few sectors is enough; there's no need to low-level format the entire hard drive. |

Man, there are many kinds of low-level formatting. If you say it only took a bit over 20 minutes, then that wasn't a real low-level format. It didn't zero out the hard drive, it was only a quick low-level format, and the results aren't that good.

Nowadays low-level formatting for hard drives is all zero-filling, trying to restore them as much as possible to their original factory state, and it does not change the physical characteristics of the platters. Nor will it damage the platters. Of course, if the platters are physically hard-damaged, low-level format tools can't do anything about it.

Anyway, I definitely wouldn't low-level format my own hard drive! Haha
