Do you mean loading the CD-ROM drive, or using a program to detect an already loaded CD-ROM drive?
FREEDOS has FINDCD, which can find already loaded CD-ROM drives. If you want to load a CD-ROM drive, please refer to the relevant materials.

The site's “FAQ on Common Questions When Using DOS” covers this! It's the last item!

It's an already installed CD-ROM drive. It can be found in COMS, and it can be found in WINDOWS, but it can't be found in DOS. What's going on? I remember there is a command for finding the CD-ROM drive in DOS, but I can't think of what that command is now. Can you help me find it!?

I think you are probably returning from Windows to DOS to find the CD-ROM drive

The WINDOWS DOS window can use the CD-ROM drive, so you must be using “Restart the computer and switch to DOS,” or entering DOS at startup and then not finding the CD-ROM drive. This is a CD-ROM drive loading issue under DOS; please refer to the article Wengier recommended.

Under pure DOS, you need to load the CDROM driver in CONFIG。SYS, then execute MACDEX。EXE /D:xxx at the command line (xxx corresponds to the /D:XXX of the CDROM driver in CONFIG。SYS), and that will do

It's MSCDEX.EXE.

Learn how to ask questions first.
Change your post's title to something better.
For posts with this kind of title, in the future there may only be these three outcomes:
1. No one replies. (This is the best case)
2. It gets moved to the off-topic area.
3. It gets deleted.
