Experts, my computer has had a small problem lately, so I'm asking you all for advice!
My system is Win98. When deleting some files, it shows the message “Error deleting file,” and says: Unable to delete: Access denied. Please make sure the disk is not full or write-protected, and that the file is not in use.
But in DOS mode I can delete them. What is going on? Please advise, thanks!

Of course that's how it is, because the file you want to delete is currently being used by some program, so the system naturally forbids you from deleting it, and that system is your Win 98. As for why it can be deleted under DOS, that's because Win 98 hasn't started at all at that time...

I deleted them in Win98's DOS mode, and those files were not being used when I deleted them.

Ah, that's strange! What kinds of files are you deleting?

When I delete them under 98, it gives an error. Then I start DOS mode (the DOS mode under Win98), and with the DEL command I can delete them!

You should check whether there is a problem with your system, that is, try deleting them on another machine.

There probably isn't any problem with the system, because it was all newly installed.

That's what I think too, because the file you want to delete is being used by win98. Press F8 at startup to enter DOS and use the rd command to delete it, then the file you want to delete can be removed.

Sometimes my machine also has this situation, but usually after I restart and enter 98 again, I can freely delete those files that couldn't be deleted before (of course, not 98's system files).

The rd command can only delete empty directories, obviously.
