Burned a CD containing the GHOST program and a 500M disk image C.GHO. When restoring C.GHO from the CD to the hard drive, it stopped at 75% and the prompt was:

Output error file to the following location:

A:\GHOSTERR.TXT

OK Cancel

It stopped at 75% repeatedly.

Running the GHOST program on the hard drive, selecting the C.GHO image on the hard drive, the restoration was successful;
Running the GHOST program on the hard drive, selecting the C.GHO image on the CD, the restoration was successful;
Running the GHOST program on the CD, selecting the C.GHO image on the hard drive, the restoration was successful;
Only when running the GHOST program on the CD, selecting the C.GHO image on the CD, the restoration process stopped at 75% and failed.

Searched online for answers, and there were the following kinds:

1. Problem with the CD drive or CD quality;
2. The CD is too worn and the image file is damaged;
3. Problem with the GHOST version;
4. Problem with the motherboard or memory;
5. Partition, FORMAT hard drive, FAT32 format;

All nonsense, people repeating what others say without verification. The reasons are:

1. Problem with the CD drive or CD quality;

  So many users have problems with their CD drives or CDs? My CD drive works normally for other tasks.

2. The CD is too worn and the image file is damaged;

  I checked the CD C.GHO image file with GHOST and it was fine, passed successfully.

3. Problem with the GHOST version;

  Could the GHOST production company make such a mistake?

4. Problem with the motherboard or memory;

  Made many users toss about for a day.

5. Partition, FORMAT hard drive;

  This move is even more vicious.
  I made the GHO image file using the current hard drive environment.

You modify the parameters, save that GHOSTERR.TXT to the hard disk, and then see what errors are indicated in it.

When directly executing Ghost installation from the CD, occasional errors occur during the reading process and it returns to normal after retrying. The information needs to be saved as a Log file (i.e., GHOSTERR.TXT). Coincidentally, the current drive A: is an unwritable virtual drive, so it terminated abnormally.

When the current drive is a hard disk, the similar information like the following that occasionally appears can be successfully saved into the Log file:
Read error, retrying...OK (and so on like this)

Who can guarantee that the first pass of reading the CD header will succeed? Trying several times to read the CD information is already not a big deal, and you can continue the installation...

So, I analyze that it is still due to the overly sensitive exception handling of the Ghost program. Originally, if the situation of retrying OK is ignored, there would be no previous problems. Why be so serious? It backfires.

I also encountered this, and it was fine after changing the disk.

Agree with this explanation.
I also feel it is a bug of the Ghost software

Well, this can't really be regarded as a bug of Ghost. It can only be blamed on others being too rigorous and having too high requirements.

In my opinion, most of it is caused by CD overburning. Now many CDs are labeled as able to burn data of 710M or even more, but according to my tests, burning more than 650M may cause the burned data to be damaged or incomplete. However, hard drive partitions are often relatively large, so they can definitely accommodate GHO files. The owner can check the size of the data when burning the CD. (PS: I once burned several XP CDs with a large number of common software added, and the size was close to 700M. As a result, when restoring to the hard drive, the ghost progress reached 99% and then the prompt as the owner said appeared. It was really heart - breaking.)

The size of the data I burned on the disc is 520M

Don't believe them. If you run GHOST.EXE on the CD-ROM and then manually point to the GHO file on the hard disk, see, there's no so-called A:\GHOSTERR.TXT anymore. Think about it, why does this error occur when you point to the GHO file on the CD-ROM? The only solution is to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. But how to modify it depends on your specific situation.
