1、Avoid entering the password over and over

　　When we use WinRAR to open an encrypted ZIP archive and run the files inside it, we find that it is not quite the same as WinZip. WinZip only asks you to enter the password when running the first file; as long as the password check passes, you can directly view the other files in the archive. WinRAR is different: every time it runs a program in the ZIP archive, it asks for the password. When there are a lot of files, it gets really annoying.


　　Actually, WinRAR provides a function similar to WinZip's, and it is also very convenient to use. After opening the encrypted archive, just click the “Password” item in the “File” menu with the mouse and enter the correct password, and the problem will be solved in one go.

　　2、Hide the filenames inside the archive

　　Almost all compression software provides encryption, to protect personal privacy and important data. But most of them overlook encrypting filenames. As CPU clock speeds rapidly rise, cracking archive passwords becomes easier and easier. As long as the machine is fast enough and enough time is spent, any password may be cracked. Once someone takes an interest in your data, its security becomes shaky. Therefore, it is best to include filenames in the encryption scope as well. If nobody even knows what is stored in the archive, who would still bother spending the time and effort to crack it?

　　The famous WinZip does not provide this function. Fortunately, WinRAR can do it, though it can only be used with RAR files; for ZIP files it can do nothing (who told it to be inherently inadequate?).

　　First, click the “Add” button in WinRAR's main interface to create a new archive, then in the pop-up window select the “Files” tab and choose the files to add to the archive; next switch to the “Advanced” tab, click the “Set password...” button, and enter the password.
Remember: before clicking “OK”, you must check the “Encrypt file names” item (as shown above), otherwise all the previous effort will be wasted.

Would've been nice to know this earlier

When using winrar to compress movies and the like, after compressing them the size seems to be about the same.
