I think there are several things to consider when making an emergency boot disk.
First, the size of the disk. If it's used as a bootable floppy disk, you can consider expanding it to 1.68M. If it's used as a CD - ROM boot disk, you can only use 1.44M. Second, the operating system. Besides MSDOS, you can consider ROM - DOS, PCDOS or DRDOS. The key is that the kernel is small and supports FAT32 and even long file names. Third, software. There are relatively many choices here. Generally, you can choose from aspects such as disk detection/repair, file recovery/search, Chinese support, etc., and balance between volume and function. I want to listen to everyone's opinions on the above issues first. |

Can support USB devices! Because there are really many USB devices! SCSI can be fewer! It is suggested to use 2.88, so there are more software! It is convenient to boot with it! Because using a floppy drive is really relatively slow! Ghost! PM! For Chinese input, it is suggested to use Pocket Dragon! Small! And in DOS, it is for emergency use, and no one can't use pinyin! Others are redundant! Also, it is best to have a small graphical interface! Now there are more people who don't know DOS! Having a graphical interface can be convenient! (Similar to NE, VC, I recommend DT) Compression software is not needed! (If possible, use self-extracting files under DOS. WinAce can make self-extracting files of zip, cab, cae under DOS. WinRAR can make self-extracting files of rar under DOS. It is randomly 30-40k larger than the compressed package. However, unzip = 39k, ace = 301k, rar = 90, which is not version 3.0. extract = 45k compressed. So it seems that self-extracting is smaller! But the memory processing of self-extracting is more troublesome, but Teacher mys is a master, isn't he! He can solve it!) For memory, I'm really not clear! So I still hope that everyone can give pointers! Boot?! It is approved to use other DOS instead of MSDOS, but it is necessary to test the compatibility of the above-mentioned software under this DOS! The logo is not needed to save space! Some software can be saved as much as possible!

The following is a quote from mys on May 17, 2003 at 10:30:21: I suggest using the core of PC-DOS 7.10 and the COMMAND.COM of ROM-DOS 7.1 |

It is not recommended to use the core of PC-DOS 7.10. Because PC-DOS 7.10 does not support extended partitions with FAT32 on small hard disks. The 6.4GB hard disk I have can only see the C drive after booting with it. Moreover, PC-DOS 7.10 does not support long file names.

It's just that COMMAND.COM doesn't support long file names, right?

Is it good to use FreeDOS! The boot disk of Kingsoft Antivirus uses this!

The following is a quote from Roy at 20:38:33 on May 17, 2003: Hmm. But PC-DOS 7.1 does have some bugs. It can't well support the root folder of FAT32 partitions! And it doesn't support other drives other than the C drive as I mentioned above. |

Stop arguing. I've always used RDM-DOS. For the Chinese system, just add xzl. For file management, use the DT I uploaded (edit, hdcopy, etc. can be omitted). For repair, ndd and regedit are essential... For partitioning, choose either spfdisk or diskgen. Don't use wengier's ntfsdos, it doesn't support reading and writing, it's all show and no go... Try readntfs......

If it's an emergency boot disk, I think using ROM-DOS is the best option

dt doesn't support restoring img to floppy disk! So hd-copy is best to use! bad-copy for dos should also be added! There's no message, I just uploaded it and it's only 7k!

ROM-DOS has a fatal flaw: partitions after H cannot be used.
For large hard drives nowadays, using partitions after H is very common. Before this problem is solved, it is not recommended to use it. |

It's a pity that I don't have a hard disk partition above H, so I can't test.

There is this problem,. But as for the operation of partitions on the system repair disk. After the rom-dos is booted, other partition software can completely recognize the partitions that rom-dos cannot recognize....
