There are relatively many new users in the forum, and the titles of the posts they post are quite casual (even some posts of senior members are like this): "Help", "Ask for advice", "Batch processing problem", "Question about ××"... Many titles are either too general or unclear in meaning. The "Question about ××" has almost become an all-purpose universal title, and it is impossible to infer the general content of the post from the title, which is quite inconvenient for future searches and management. Almost every time I visit the forum, I have to post several version management posts to prompt to modify the title, and then I have to go to see if the original poster has modified the title after a while to take the next step. I have spent a lot of energy on such repetitive things and feel very tired. I was still very patient in the beginning, but even a clay figurine has its limits. Today I dealt with this one, and tomorrow another one pops up, and there is even a trend of increasing. Day after day, recently when I see such posts, I even have the heart to deduct points + delete the post + block the IP. I really don't understand those new users. Since they want to solve the problem well, why don't they write the title clearly?

Since the new users have not realized this problem, I think the management should take some measures. Relying only on a few moderators to post such thankless version management posts will definitely drive people crazy. I initially thought of the following several measures:

1. Limit new users' posting. For example, stipulate that new users are not allowed to post within half an hour or one hour or other more reasonable time;
2. Force new users to read the forum rules. When new users register, a pop-up window of the forum rules is popped up for new users to read. If the pop-up window is closed within half a minute (or other more reasonable time), it will be automatically reopened, and then it will not pop up after a certain time. Of course, the pop-up forum rules at this time are a streamlined version, with a link to the full version in it. Otherwise, new users will definitely be scared away by the long-winded clauses;
3. Modify the prompt in the title bar: The current title bar prompt only marks the character length limit. If a prompt for new users to pay attention to the title content is added and marked with eye-catching font size and color, it can reduce the phenomenon of casual title taking to a certain extent.

Among the above three measures, I think the third one is the most feasible and has a relatively good effect. I wonder if you have any better ways.

If when posting a new thread, when filling in the title, there is a drop-down menu, and the drop-down menu contains the titles pre-set by the forum, such as:

  [Question] [……]
  [Original] [Type……] [Own title]
  [Discussion] [Type……] [Own title]

Or: The drop-down menu only marks and selects the posting range, such as [Original] or [Question] or [Algorithm] or [What……]

  Then the user writes the title of the thread, just like the following form:

  -------Drop-down menu--  ---User-written-----
  [Title selected in the drop-down menu] [Here is the title supplemented by the user]

If there is a drop-down menu option before posting in the forum, if the classification is scientific, then when there are more and more threads in the forum, when the forum counts and the moderators sort teaching.CHM and other statistics, using a certain range fixed by the forum's that drop-down menu can facilitate semi-automatic classification~ : )

Other: Or when a new user registers for the first time, they will receive a private message, and links to matters needing attention, etc.

Take this place to vent some grievances

1. Many common problems, I hope the moderators can collect and sort them into a FAQ.
2. Following the previous point, it's great that everyone actively answers questions, but people are all lazy. Sometimes when everyone is busy, some posts say words like "Where are the experts? Have all the experts left?", "Please provide code", "Urgent!!" which are very unpleasant. I want to ask, how much do you gain if I give you the code directly?
3. Some posts are obviously asking for code, not sincerely seeking technical advice, not discussing interesting issues, and it is suggested to ignore them.

Many technical forums, such as my beloved 51js.com, have become a sea of FAQs, discussing some shallow, old problems that repeat every few weeks. I don't want this phenomenon to happen in CN-DOS. Remember: We have no obligation to provide free technical support for Microsoft; we are only interested in DOS, batch processing, and scripts. We have no obligation to provide code!

Completely agree with points 2 and 3

Regarding the issue of posting restrictions for new users, in fact, about two or three months ago, there was already a restriction that new users registered within 20 minutes are not allowed to post.

Regarding the prompt in the title bar, I have just added the following sentence:

Note: Please try to make the title clear and meaningful, which can roughly reflect the content of the post, and do not use vague titles such as "Please help", "Everyone take a look", "Newcomer asks for advice".

It's a good idea. I just tried to add a "Insert Type" dropdown menu under the title bar when creating a new post, and it can insert values like , , , , , , mentioned in the batch processing room rules into the title.

  It's good to have this prompt. Let's observe for a while and see how it works - it is suggested to change the color of the prompt to red, which is more eye-catching. Because it is placed below the title box instead of behind it, when posting, if you don't consciously look for it, it is easy to be ignored.

I have changed the color of "Notice" to red. I'm worried that if there's too much content in red font, it might make some new users hesitant to post, so this might be better.

The so-called "kill the chicken to scare the monkey", I think if Wengier doesn't ban a few IDs, they won't act in accordance with the forum regulations. I've long said to close the registration function of the forum. Although it will affect the traffic, but if there's endless free registration, there will inevitably be a lot of garbage. There will be many garbage users and garbage posts. Still, think it over carefully.

Hehe, I can relate``There are all kinds of random problems oh

Exactly. Many problems have nothing to do with DOS/batch processing at all. Are we the DOS Union or the WIN Union?
