Question: compared with the lLnux operating system and the Windows operating system, which one takes up more space after installation? Also, can Windows applications be installed on the lLnux operating system platform?

As for the current new versions like Redhat, Xlinux, Mandrake... even a custom minimal installation is bigger than 98... the software is basically not compatible, but fortunately Linux comes with a large amount of software integrated....

RedHat 9 is slow??? I don't think so. After all, RedHat now has more and more services, and in terms of functionality and stability it's far better than Windows 2000. Personally, I think if you use it as a Web server, performance-wise it's even stronger than Win2003. So the key is really how you use it. An operating system is actually nothing more than an environment for applications!

On my computer, RedHat 9 doesn't run as fast as 8, while Mandrake 9.1 is overall much faster than the earlier version....

Actually Mandrake entered the desktop market quite early, so it understands desktop users' habits a bit better. Redhat can't compare in that respect, and the interface looks better too. The only thing that makes me unhappy is that by default it automatically mounts Windows partitions, so you have to change it yourself.
Actually I personally think Slackware seems pretty good, BSD-based, with a very simple feel
