1. Using the Shift key to draw standard shapes

1. Hold down the Shift key, and the lines and arrow lines you draw will no longer form arbitrary angles with the horizontal line, but only fixed angles such as 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, and 90°.

2. Hold down the Shift key to draw perfect circles, squares, regular five-pointed stars, equilateral triangles, cubes, square text boxes, and so on.

In short, the shapes drawn while holding down the Shift key are all standard shapes, and if you keep holding down the Shift key, you can also select multiple shapes continuously.

2. Quickly close windows

When many windows are open on the desktop, closing them one by one is too troublesome. If you hold down the Shift key while closing the bottommost window, all windows will close at the same time. If you hold down the Shift key while closing a window in the middle layer, then all the windows above it will close, while the windows below it will remain unchanged.

3. Disable the “Auto Play” function

When some playback software on your computer is set to “Auto Play,” after you put a CD or VCD into the CD-ROM drive, the computer will automatically read the disc and play its contents. If you temporarily do not want to use this function, hold down the Shift key when inserting the disc to temporarily disable “Auto Play.”

4. Change the way a file is opened

In Windows, every file has its default way of being opened, but sometimes you do not want to open it that way. If you want to change the default opening method for that file type, the simplest method is as follows: first select the file with the left mouse button, then hold down the Shift key and click the right mouse button. In the shortcut menu that pops up, choose “Open With.” In the Open With dialog box, select the program you want, and also check “Always use this program to open this type of file,” then click “OK.”
