How to make START wait for another command to finish before continuing - China DOS Union Forum

When start launches another program, adding the /W parameter works, but when calling an internal command it stops working? Why is that?
I looked through many earlier posts and none mentioned START delaying command execution, only delaying when calling other programs.

rem To solve the problem that using EMULE to download and then auto-shutdown may damage the download, I wrote this script. The idea is as follows:
START /W shutdown -s -t 200
START /W shutdown -a
START /W XCOPY /S/C/H/R/Y rpl\*.*  d:\
shutdown -s -t 100
@echo on

In the code above, how can I make START wait after executing shutdown -s -t 200 until the 200S is over, then continue with shutdown -a and wait until that is finished, then continue with START /W XCOPY /S/C/H/R/Y rpl\*.* d:\, and after the copy is done then execute shutdown -s -t 100

Explanation: although it is possible to put each internal command into a BAT file to achieve this, if there are many commands it becomes very troublesome. How can this problem be solved? Is START really powerless when it comes to internal commands?

After shutdown -s -t 200, wait for the 200S to finish? Then it will just shut down directly... it won't wait for your -a

You can do it with a VBS script: first set the program to exit automatically when the download is complete, then detect that EMULE is no longer running and shut down the system.
