The following naming conventions are used to represent command syntax:
- Uppercase letters represent words that must be entered exactly as they are. Lowercase letters represent the names of items that can be changed, such as file names.
- The [ and ] characters include optional items that can be added to the command.
- The { and } characters include item lists. Users must include one of these items in the command.
For example, in the following syntax, the user must enter NET COMMAND and SWITCH1 or SWITCH2, and the name is optional.
NET COMMAND [name] {SWITCH1 | SWITCH2}
- The [...] characters indicate that the preceding items can be repeated. Separate each item with a space.
- The [,...] characters indicate that the preceding items can be repeated, but the user must separate each item with a comma or semicolon instead of a space.
