In the past, there were many excellent Chinese platforms under DOS. In the Windows 3.x era, it seemed there was only UCWIN 1.0. At the beginning of the popularity of Windows 95, I remember there was also a "Sitong Lifang" RichWin, and there were versions for various different OS. I wonder what good Windows Chinese platforms are available now, and it would be best if they can also support multiple code pages.

I wonder if Antarctic Star can be counted. It's a pity that in the 2000/XP era, Chinese platforms have little room for use.

The version of "N南极星" I used before seemed to have no input method. I wonder how the latest version is.

I've always thought the best way to use it is Western OS plus Chinese platform, just like under DOS. When I installed it, I was surprised to find that the startup and running speed of the Datacenter version is even faster than that of the Chinese version of Server and Advanced Server versions?! Since after 2000/XP, English Windows also fully supports Chinese.

Then why can't I display Chinese characters normally? I've added Chinese input method, but I still can't input Chinese characters.

Can't be! Set the default language to Chinese in the Region Options in the Control Panel, so that an English Windows can operate Chinese exactly like a Chinese system.

In addition, if all software (including input methods) are written in Unicode, even the above step is not needed. That is just to tell the operating system to handle all non-Unicode characters with the Chinese code page.

Michae is indeed knowledgeable. Since 2000/XP, the English version of Windows has fully supported Chinese. Just enable "East Asian language" support in the Control Panel! (You can search for the specific steps) It can display Chinese and input Chinese. I used the English version of XP for about half a year and then deleted it!

Microsoft not only provided simplified and traditional Chinese character fonts in the Windows XP operating system, but also provided corresponding input method support. If you want to enable the support for Chinese in the English version of Windows XP operating system, you can refer to the following settings (taking the English version of Windows XP Professional as an example, the setting method of Windows XP Home Edition is similar).

1. Open "Control Panel", double-click the "Regional and Language Options" icon to open the regional and language settings window;

2. In the regional and language settings window, select the "Language" tab, and tick the "Install Files for East Asian Languages" option;

3. The system prompts that about 230MB of space is needed, please select OK and operate according to the prompt. After success, return to the "Regional Options" page;

4. In the "Regional Options" tab, select "Chinese (PRC)" in the "Standards and Formats" drop-down box to use Chinese format, and select "China" in the "Location" drop-down box, indicating that the current belonging region is China;

5. Click the "Details" button in the "Language" tab, select "Chinese (PRC)-Chinese (Simplified)-US Keyboard" in the "Default input language" drop-down box in "Settings", and click the "Add" button in "Install Services" to add the Chinese input method.

Since I'm using Win2000, there are still some differences from XP settings. I set in 2K's Control Panel -> Regional Options -> General -> Your locale(location) to Chinese(PRC), and checked Simplified Chinese in Language settings for the system. In the Input Locales tab's Input language, I added Chinese "double pinyin" and "full pinyin" input methods, but when adding MS-PinYin98, it prompted me that "Windows could not properly load the Chinese(PRC) - Chinese (Simplified) - MS-PinYin98 keyboard layout." Could not install this input method. But strangely, this didn't happen on another machine. Now I won't worry about that, as long as there's Chinese input.

Now basically Chinese characters in the system can be displayed, such as Chinese file names, and IE can browse Chinese web pages normally after installing the Chinese language pack. I'm replying here in such an environment.

But the problem is that as this article introduced, "the interface of some Chinese software will be displayed as garbled characters", and I can't find the setting of "Language for non-unicode programs" in Regional Options -> General -> Your locale(location) -> Advanced. Moreover, Chinese file names can be displayed normally, but Chinese text still can't be displayed normally. Opening a Chinese text with Notepad shows all ASCII codes, and no Chinese fonts can be found in the font options.

How to solve the input method installation problem and Chinese text display problem?

If it is Windows 2000, in the language box of the Regional Options (that is, the place where you check Simplified Chinese), select Simplified Chinese, then click the set default in the lower right corner, and follow the prompts to do.

But unfortunately, this is still a bit different from what I originally envisioned, because I want to be in a pure English environment, and when I need to handle Chinese, I can enter the Chinese environment, and exit when I don't need it. Just like before under DOS. Because according to the current Windows settings, switching between the two default language environments must restart the system, which is very troublesome. So if there is a good Chinese platform, please introduce it to me.

Also, ask if the msconfig files of SP1 and SP2 of Windows XP are the same. If they are different, can someone give me an English version of SP2's msconfig.

Even if you install those things mentioned above, the interface is still in Chinese. It shouldn't affect your requirements, right?

Now most of my Chinese and Chinese software can be used normally. The strange thing is that some Chinese software still does not display Chinese normally. I don't know the reason.
