This thing can make a boot disk for testing hard disks. When the disk boots, the words JHS-DOS appear, but in DOS71 you can't see anything on it. NDD, DISKEDIT, etc. also can't do anything with it.
It must be using a very special format.
The installer for this software was made with WINRAR, and it can be opened, but unfortunately the CAB file inside can't be opened. Otherwise it might have been possible to extract that tool and combine it into a normal boot disk.

That data1.cab should be an image file rather than a compressed file.

I used VPC to make an image file, and after comparing, I found my guess was correct.
And no FAT area was found in the image file, so I believe that tool can't be extracted.

Oh, no wonder. I used HD-COPY to read it and write it into an IMG file, then when I viewed it with UNDISKP, what came out was a whole bunch of stuff.
WIN98 says the disk is not formatted. I guess the disk's FAT format uses some special format. But 99% of its program should be DOS-compatible, otherwise what environment did they develop it under?

Looking forward to the experts cracking this disk.

The tool made by the Efficiency Source hard disk bad sector detection software uses JHS-DOS. Under 98 it simply can't be viewed either, and it also says it isn't formatted. I don't know what it was made with. Could this floppy disk be the diagnostic floppy made by the Efficiency Source hard disk bad sector detection software?

This is the software Efficiency Source uses to make floppies. I thought that archive might let the tool be extracted. Everyone can use it to make hard disk diagnostic disks.

The DATA1.CAB file really is a floppy disk image file. I took a look at it, and it seems to consist roughly of the following parts:

boot sector, 512 bytes;
boot code;
file allocation table FAT;
disk contents.

The boot code is a compressed COM-format file; I was able to decompress it with CUP386.

The FAT is there too, but it seems to record only one file, namely KERNEL.COM.

As for the contents of KERNEL.COM, that still can't be determined at present.

It should be that hard disk diagnostic software itself, with Chinese built in. The COM may just be an illusion; it probably isn't possible for it to be no more than 64K.

That may not necessarily be an illusion. For example, in ROM-DOS, IBMBIO.COM is 75K in size.

Hehe, I just saw this in Computer News today. I went to the www.51tool.com website and couldn't find it, never thought I'd find it here instead. Many thanks indeed. From this it seems our forum really does update very fast.
Enough talk, I'll go try it first.

When I registered I only received a temporary registration code. Does anyone have an official registration code? Share it, OK?

If I'm not mistaken, this problem should be solvable with a small DOS tool: 800.COM
800。COM is a TSR program that can format a 360K floppy to 800K in a 1.2M floppy drive. I once used this tool in 1991 to read similar protected contents.
