I want to make a bootable USB drive with some maintenance tools or DOS antivirus tools. I used USBBOOT, followed the instructions, set the USB-ZIP mode, generated the bootable drive, and then set the BIOS to boot from USB-ZIP, but after booting, the screen is black and it can't boot. Also, I used Jiangmin Antivirus Software, used the Make DOS Antivirus Companion, selected the USB drive, made it, and still got a black screen and couldn't boot. Please help from the experts...

Have you tried other modes? Also, what's the size of your USB flash drive? For those over 1G, you must use the USB-HDD mode.

Use HP's tool.
I've never succeeded with USBoot.
But I made it with HP's one.

The success rate of using usboot to make USB - FDD is relatively high, but the USB flash drive only supports below 128M.

It is suggested to use HP's. But I can also do it with USBOOT, and then directly SYS the startup files (such as DOS of WIN98) up. Mine is a 256M NETAC 160A, which can boot in FDD, HDD, ZIP, but FDD requires NETAC's formatting tool. Remember to enable the USB flash drive boot option in BIOS.

It's best to use the tools from the driver disc that came with the U disk itself.

Some old motherboards can set to boot from USB in CMOS, but actually cannot boot successfully. You can try another computer to see if it is a motherboard problem or a USB drive problem.

I have a different opinion on this. I think the biggest reason is the BIOS, and other reasons include: the compatibility of the USB flash drive itself, and the way of making the boot disk (including the production software used).

It's related to the mainboard, probably. Maybe experts need to explain.
The ones with Via k6/k7 platform seem to have poor compatibility, and I have the same phenomenon as the original poster. It can only boot when pulled out.
Of course, I just mean that I have seen 4 or 5 units that can't boot my IPOD USB flash drive.
But there are no problems with those with 945, 845, 865.
