The boot disk I downloaded from the website can boot now. The previous Win98 boot disk used to stop at the self-test stage. Now the rdos and Super MSDOS I downloaded can both boot to the c:\ prompt. At least I can tell it probably isn't a motherboard problem, which is good~

But my hard drive still has problems. I originally had 4 partitions, cdef, but after booting only c and d are left. And when I do any operation under c:\ (for example dir, format, etc.) it shows:

cdr101:not ready reading drive c
Abort ,retry,fail ?

I roughly understand what it means, it seems like it can't find drive c. What could be the reason for this? What should I do?? Many thanks to all you experts for helping me!!!

Are you using NTFS?

When I bought it, it already had Win98 installed. The person who sold me the computer set it up for me. I don't understand these things, so I don't know whether it's that format. Can all you experts help me?

You can load the CD-ROM driver, put a disc in the drive, and if dir under E: reads the disc, then E: and F: do not exist, and for DOS E: and F: are not other partitions. If the original Win98 could see four partitions (though this doesn't rule out that NTFS reading software was installed), then the original partitions should all have been VFAT structure. You can use software like pqmagic; the graphical interface is easy to understand, and you'll know the reason as soon as you look.

Don't use pq, it's very easy for errors to happen. I've already explained it over there... In the future please don't make duplicate posts, okay???
