What I mean is, if you add emm386.exe to a boot disk (dos6.22, 95, 98, me) and install the system, what is the difference compared with not loading emm386.exe on the boot disk? And what connection does it have with software compatibility under DOS? Experts, please note that I’m asking what difference it makes when installing the system! I’m not asking what difference it makes to memory! In the end, let time speak! Thanks!

As far as installing the system alone is concerned, there isn’t much difference, because setup is within the 640k limit.

EMM386 switches DOS (whether 6.22, 7.0, 7.1, or 8.0) into protected mode and provides UMB, EMS, and VCPI memory. But it has no effect on most programs.
