Today I bought an ASUS Ai-Flash USB flash drive, 32M in size. Not long after bringing it back, I carried out driver testing under DOS, and the result is really a bit puzzling.

Using USBASPI1.SYS + DI1000DD.SYS in CONFIG.SYS for driving, at the beginning several times, the successful ones were in the majority. When successfully driven, I felt very good using it. Not only did the memory usage very little (USBASPI1.SYS and DI1000DD.SYS together occupied less than 20K of memory), but it was just like a hard disk, readable and writable, and supported long filenames (when using DOSLFN).

With DUSE, it didn't work. Although it showed "USB device detected", it couldn't load it and would wait for a relatively long time. USBASPI2.SYS also rarely succeeded. Only the effect after loading USBASPI1.SYS was really good. Unfortunately, later for some reason, it seemed very difficult for USBASPI1.SYS to succeed anymore, always showing messages like "Target not found" and leading to failure in driving. Now it's still under further research.

Just to add, DUSE supports PnP, which is really good. It's a pity that USBASPI.SYS doesn't support it. Also, my this computer doesn't have a standard USB interface, but only a PCI to USB card. I don't know if there will be any impact.

Anyone with experience, netizens might as well also talk about their own experiences and insights when driving USB devices under DOS!

It's been changing all the time, and there's no fixed one yet.

Just use USBASPI1.SYS + DI1000DD.SYS. If DUSE doesn't work, also, the LanQiao USB flash drive is easily recognized on my MS6119 (BX motherboard) when formatted as usb-zip using the driver that came with it.

My Netac dual-boot USB flash drive supports USB FDD and USB HDD modes!
Some USB flash drives support USB-ZIP mode boot (boot with the mainboard BIOS)
Some do not support BIOS boot.
I don't know if these so-called modes have an impact on drivers under DOS!

I use a Longshine 32M dual-boot USB flash drive. Using USBASPI1.SYS + DI1000DD.SYS has been successful on multiple machines. The motherboard chips are 440LX, BX, and VIA693. It just restarts and fails when used on an 845 P4 machine.

Well, I can't get it to work successfully no matter how I try on the 845 board.

It seems that there are some problems with the hardware compatibility of the 845 motherboard! It is not compatible with many software.

I think it's not easy to say that there is a problem with 845 compatibility, because the current problems are only limited to these third-party software vendors under DOS. In other operating systems, the USB of the 845 series is all right. It can only be said that the driver is not perfect enough.
