In order to comprehensively test the hard disk tool I wrote, I just bought a 160GB one, but my motherboard is a CS65-EC board (INTEL815EP), which doesn't support large hard disks (the BIOS only shows 136). I also downloaded a new BIOS from the Internet and just flashed it (the original version was December 27, 2000, and now it's March 2, 2001). The date has been updated, and it seems like it was flashed, but it still doesn't support it... The BIOS file introduction for the update doesn't mention that it's updated to support large hard disks... Well, I still tried flashing it for luck...

Ask, can this INTEL815EP be flashed to support hard disks larger than 137GB? (Is there any other updated BIOS update?)
(Also, I don't want to use some tools to load drivers to achieve it...)

Test whether 48-bit addressing is supported using INTEL's 48lbachk.exe.

Modify the original BIOS with the Russian BP4.51. As long as the hardware supports it, flashing the modified BIOS will enable the support.

My 440BX (a 1998 board) was flashed with the BP4.51 modified BIOS, and now I'm using a 120G hard drive.

It's completely okay. There is a software called bios patcher in Hengchuang DOS.

Download Hengchuang DOS

Oh no, my BIOS doesn't support 48 BIT LBA.
Still tried BP4.0rc.f (it's said to be relatively stable),
After updating, it didn't work, still showing only support for 137GB...

If it doesn't support 48 BIT LBA, is it useless to update the BIOS again?
(But when using 48lbachk.exe, it said it doesn't support 48 BIT LBA and suggested upgrading the BIOS.
Does this mean that the BIOS can be upgraded to support 48 BIT LBA?)

(Side note: Before flashing the BIOS, of course, I made a backup. I just flashed it once before.
Used BP, after updating, there was no problem, but when I changed the BIOS settings once and saved it, a big problem came! --------- After restarting, it showed a flat black screen. It's okay, as long as the BOOT BLOCK is also bad. The problem is that it doesn't automatically boot from the floppy disk, which scared me! It's like not giving me a chance to restore the backup!... Suspected that it was caused by a bug in BP.
Thought, this is a big trouble! Later, tried to discharge the CMOS... Black, and it actually recovered.. (Here, a bit puzzled: CMOS is only 256 bytes, what does this have to do with the BIOS not being able to boot?) But according to this, the cause of the fault should be that the bug in BP caused the CMOS to fail to be rewritten and messed up? Discharging the CMOS fixed it)

TO wang6610:
BP4.51 hasn't been tested yet, probably similar?
What's special about BP6.0?
That website is in Russian, can't understand,
(Also, I'm using AWARD BIOS)
Is BP6.0 for AMI?
At this point, I basically don't have much hope. But still, thank you very much.

Also, when the INTEL BIOS does not support 48 BIT LBA, is the installation of IAA (Intel Application Accelerator) useful?
