I don't know why, but when I go online with msclient in DOS real mode,
I still can't access neighboring computers.
I'm on the school's LAN, and my classmates' machines have already been set to shared; there are both win2k and win98 systems.
I'm in DOS real mode. I already added the TCP/IP protocol, and the gateway, IP, and DNS have all been set correctly.
But I still can't access nearby shared resources, and those shared resources are in the same workgroup as mine.
After I use the net use command, it shows a message saying it can't connect, even though the other machine is on.
The usage of the bet use command is also correct; if I use the same bet use command
in a DOS window under win98, I can map some of the same shared resources.
Please help me.

It'd be best to load the NetBEUI protocol as well and try again.

No, moderator.
I can't load the NetBEUI protocol; as soon as I load it, Errors appear.
And even if I did load it, it would still be useless, since other people's machines don't have the NetBEUI protocol loaded.
So even if I load the NetBEUI protocol, I still can't share files with others. It would only take up memory for nothing.
I loaded the TCP/IP protocol, and it was already completely successful.
But I still can't share files with others, please help me think of a solution.
Thanks.

Then would using DHCP or BOOTP for the IP address work?

No, moderator.
We don't have a DHCP server here.
If I select DHCP, it won't even finish starting up; it just stops at tcptsr.exe and goes no further.
Here I can only use a fixed IP.
As for BOOTP, I don't know what that is, and msclient doesn't seem to have an option for using BOOTP.
